Joel Schantz - Founder and Creator of Crispy Cat Candy bars.
Born a rockin’ rollin’ candy creatin’ machine, Joel couldn’t help the fact that he’s created the world’s first organic candy bar.
|
Growing up in Miami, FL he became a well known rock guitarist and played in bands for many years. In 2002, he and his family moved to beautiful Asheville, NC to pursue his dream of getting out of Miami. We’re happy to report that that has been tremendously successful. Since then he has been focused on getting the ultimate organic, vegan candy bars (Crispy Cats) to as many mouths as possible.
When not tending to his two precious daughters Molly and Ruby or hanging with wife Julie, Joel loves spending his time eating and thinking about Crispy Cats while playing his guitar.

Ari Schantz - Chief Financial Officer
Joel's brother Ari also came to us from Miami FL, along with his beautiful wife Ali and their new baby Max. Ari looks exactly like Joel minus the tattoos, and is the financial wizard here at CRISPY CAT.
Ann Sweeney – Community Relations
Ann came to the Crispy Cat family in 2006 when she was hired to do demos and to help make the candy bars by hand. Now she is the official community relations officer for the company. Ann also writes the company’s blog and helps to keep the office in good sprits with her entertaing stories and effervescent personality. Ann is a passionate animal lover and lives with her dashing husband Ted and their 4 companion animal friends; she also gave birth to her first child in May, a little girl.
Stu Helm - Art Director
Stu has been providing art and graphics to bands, stores, companies, universities, books, newspapers, and magazines for over 20 years, and came to Crispy Cat in August 2007. He is originally from Boston Mass, and arrived in Asheville, NC via Chicago in 2005. He runs his own company called Cheesy Graphics, he loves video games, coaches T-Ball, and practices healthy food and living habits.

Eric Usher – Sales and Marketing Director
Born and raised on a people farm outside of Boston, MA, Eric escaped at a young age when he feigned mad-human disease and escaped care at a nearby hospital. Eric Usher is not his real name and due to his horror filled experience on the people farm, he has since vowed to only promote products which do not involve the use of any of his family members as ingredients. For that reason, Crispy Cat has made a perfect home. In his spare time Eric shuns counseling and tends to his loving wolfette, Pasiphae. He also enjoys music, sports, qigong and his co-workers.
James "Jimmy Legs" Bursenos - Shipping & Receiving
Jimmy Legs has been shipping and receiving goods for the better part of the millenium, and with Crispy Cat since August '07. The physical nature of the work compliments his other vocational interest in painting, examples of which can be seen at solsticestudios.net.

Leila Bakkum - National Sales Director
Once a computer programmer, then an organic farmer -joining the natural products industry in 1990 and now National Sales Manager for Crispy Cat - Leila is happy to be on board with Crispy Cat since June of 07. Leila is the quintessential soccer mom gone south - she loves digging in the dirt and cookin' vegetarian meals for her meat eatin' man.
Rebecca Vann - Project Coordinator
Rebecca came on board at Crispy Cat to herald the pulpit and make sure she fulfills her destiny of helping people… and in this case, helping people receive chocolate! She is an herbalist, organic gardener, mother of two young boys, wife, and relentless nurturer of humanity. She believes we should let our food be our medicine and our medicine be our food, and she fully believes in the healing power of chocolate and Crispy Cat Candy Bars!!
Andrew J. Usher – Inside Sales Rep.
Born and raised in a small farm town in Massachusetts he spent his time playing in bands and hanging out in the woods with friends. After graduating he migrated south to the big city of Asheville, NC. He then spent a few years touring the country as a sound engineer with a funk band. He also met the love of his life, Isabel, with whom he has a six year old daughter, and another child on the way. He has watched from the sidelines as Crispy Cat has grown from a two-man kitchen operation to an international brand, and he has now found a place to help foster the growth of best candy bar company in the land.
